Our commitment to quality and actor training

We believe that quality in our shows is of the highest importance and although our actors are amateur in the sense that they do not get paid, the quality of the work is paramount and our performances are regularly judged as on a level with most professional productions. Many of the actors we have developed over the years have gone on to work on other projects.

We think it’s important that the actors in the company are given opportunities to develop and explore their talent. In 2013 we were privileged to welcome Michael Corbidge to come and work with the company. Michael is a professional voice coach and associate practitioner with the Royal Shakespeare Company and we are delighted to call him a friend of the company.

Get Involved

Sudden Impulse acts as a Theatre Company and not as a society so there is no paying a membership and joining the company as such. However once you have successfully auditioned and become part of a production you become part of the wider Theatre Company.

We cast our productions in a combination of three ways:

  • If a suitable actor exists within the company to play a specific part they may be approached directly and asked if they are interested.
  • We may have internal auditions opening parts up to any existing member of the company.
  • We may have open auditions which is a chance for anybody with the relevant experience and ability to become part of the company.

It is worth noting that 65% of the parts cast in the last 12 months were given to new company members. Anybody who is interested in becoming part of our acting company should send a covering letter and resume to Alternatively, keep checking our website and Facebook page for upcoming audition details.

There are also ways to get involved behind the scenes. We are often looking for support in set construction, lighting, sound and stage management. We can offer some training towards these roles.
