Sudden Impulse Theatre Company has been running for nearly ten years and producing high quality productions, now we are opening our doors to The Sudden Impulse Theatre Academy.

The academy will provide the very best teaching for those interested in acting and the performing arts, catering for students who are aged 7 – 18 and providing specialist teaching in Acting, Dancing and Singing.

Students can also learn about the technical apects of theatre such as lighting, sound and stage management in the Sudden Impulse Technical Academy which will include work experience on productions.

For students aged 16 or over who plan to take on further and higher education in the performing arts there are additional Pro-Academy lessons. There are many dance schools in the area and this is not designed to be one. We are however working to standards common with all top drama schools in the UK who offer acting degrees. We will also offer Dancing and Singing sessions for actors.

We will be offering tuition and guidance in exams accredited by the London Academy of Dramatic Art – this nationally recognised accreditation is a useful addition to your CV and the more advanced exams carry University UCAS points.
The academy is fully covered – including public liability.
Physical Contact
All three disciplines are physical activities, please be aware that in order to correctly teach these subjects, like in teaching of most sporting activities, there will be the need for physical contact between teacher and student. There are a number of reasons where this could be applicable but primarily for Health and Safety reasons and to correct posture and breathing so the students do not do any damage to themselves.
As this is a performance based academy there is an expectation that the students will be seen in public and we will be taking some photographs of workshops and assessments and performances. These may be used in future promotional material and publicity. If you do not wish your child to be used in any such photographs then please let us know in writing.
All regular teaching staff are DBS checked and any new staff and teaching assistants will also go through that process. The Abbey Theatre is quite secure and there is an electronic latch in operation to prevent people from entering – however this only works if the door is closed so please take time to ensure the door is closed behind you when leaving the building.

What Our Students Say

Sudden Impulse Theatre Academy has helped me gain a lot of confidence and make new friends. I have learned a lot of skills that have helped me in productions as well as in school.

The academy has been really useful for me always showing me new knowledge and techniques that stay with me outside of those classes. They are very useful and everyone there is incredibly welcoming. I would thoroughly recommend it.

I have been attending the Academy for three years and my confidence has grown so much because of it. The skills I have learned have helped me through my A-levels and in day to day life.
